HCYM classes take place on the second floor of Hestercombe House, with its sweeping views across the Somerset countryside.

With lessons in piano, singing, guitar, bass guitar, cornet, trumpet, trombone, violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet, saxophone and composition, as well as a range of academic classes, the broad curriculum offers students a range of challenges and lots of fun with like-minded young musicians.


The HCYM calendar follows the academic school year from September through to July, spread over 30 Saturdays. Students have the chance to prepare for seasonal concerts, as well as smaller scale lunchtime concerts.

Hestercombe Centre for Young Musicians

Would your child like to study music in the magnificent surroundings of Hestercombe House and Gardens near Taunton?   In a ground breaking initiative the Guildhall School (London) has forged a relationship with the Sound Foundation Somerset Music Education HUB and the Hestercombe Gardens Trust to provide progression routes for young musicians.   Opened in March 2014, the Hestercombe Centre for Young Musicians (HCYM) now welcomes applications from committed young musicians aged 5-18 to attend on Saturdays between 9.00am and 2.00pm in a sustained programme of weekly training comprising ensemble work, singing, instrumental lessons, history and composition, theory of music and aural classes, all taught by a high quality team of dedicated and enthusiastic tutors.
