New Exhibition in the Lutyens Gallery - Sari Byrne, Rita Fisk, Patricia Mummery
Tue 6th April to Sun 25th April
Fabulous new exhibition - A well-established group of textile artistsSARI BYRNE
Although trained as an illustrator and printmaker, Sari transferred to the tactile medium of textiles as she found this enabled her to more fully realise her ideas of texture and dimension.
"My current textile work mainly draws inspiration from my personal experiences and observations of the countryside, especially of the West Country. A deep pleasure in the transient beauty of natural forms and textures strongly influences the choice of media and technique used in the creation of my work.
Hand stitching predominates, though use of a variety of other processes, such as dyeing and printing are also integral elements. I am a member of several exhibiting groups in the South West. "
PATRICIA MUMMERY
Patricia began as a printer and printmaker but along the way became side-tracked by textile techniques - loining and layering cloth, painting and printing and mark making with stitch.
"The work begins in the landscape with observations and feelings about the natural environment, its shapes, colours, textures, and the atmosphere generated by the weather and the light. Subject matter may range from a rocky coastline to a flower meadow under a night sky. Japanese art is one of many influences. I am a member of several exhibiting groups and have held solo exhibitions."
RITA FISK
The inspiration of Rita's work comes from the link between people and their environments. Using drawings and observations from countries visited and artistic styles enjoyed, impressions are put together to form an image of their world - creating a vision of scale and perspective. Traditional patterns are incorporated to bind together the images, using a combination of hand a machine stitchery, applique and collage.
"The excitement of colour on colour and pattern against pattern, create rich tonal qualities and deeply textured fantasy landscapes."
