Great day out - love it here. My favourite place near home - the kids love it!
Our next major Appeal will be launched in 2014 as Hestercombe begins the ambitious Hestercombe House Project.
Hestercombe Gardens Trust is an independent charity - Charity Number 1060000. All proceeds from admissions, membership, retail, functions and events go directly to the continuing restoration, development and maintenance of these important and beautiful gardens.
A donation to Hestercombe, no matter how small, is gratefully accepted.
A quick and easy online payment system is in the process of being set up but in the meantime, if you would like to make a donation, please telephone 01823 413923 and speak to Phillip White.
Thank you very much from the bottom of our heart!
As a small (but very busy!) charity, Hestercombe volunteers deliver a number of very valuable services, both directly to visitors and behind the scenes. There are a variety of places you can get involved from the gardens to the house and in office administration.
Great for the CV, volunteering at Hestercombe is an invaluable opportunity to gain experience in an innovative, creative environment and develop skills and knowledge that will enhance future career opportunities.
It’s a great way to meet a diverse group of other volunteers as well as paid staff.
Volunteers are invited to Hestercombe’s annual volunteer party – a great opportunity to socialise and get to know our team even better.
Volunteers receive free tea and coffee while volunteering.
The roles undertaken by volunteers here at Hestercombe are considered some of the most important across the organisation and allow us to offer the highest quality visitor experience and involve the local community in the running of the estate. Without the support of volunteers we would not be able to deliver the range of events, exhibitions and continued estate management we currently do.
Whether you are able to offer a few hours a month or a day or two a week it is your time and energy that makes Hestercombe the exciting, innovative and engaging place it is.
Hestercombe is a diverse estate with a diverse history. Take a look at some of our history here.
We have recently taken ownership of Hestercombe House and are now undertaking the huge task of bringing the house back to life. And, having been in local authority care both as County Council and Fire Brigade offices for over 50 years she is in need of some serious TLC!
Stage one of the recovery plan for the house is to bring her back to a standard of presentation suitable to host a new art gallery and to be open to the public. At a later stage, when funding can be secured, we intend to carry out a more thorough restoration and establish a more permanent gallery space.
Therefore we are actively looking for volunteers to be involved in this first stage of recovery for the house in a variety of roles:
There are 4 areas we are recruiting for at the moment:
Working as part of a team you will assist with basic renovations including painting and decorating, plumbing and carpentry.
Skills in one of more of these areas are essential.
In this role you will meet and greet visitors to the new Hestercombe House Gallery, helping them to get the most out of their visit.
Bookshop set up
Do you have specific experience managing and cataloguing books? We are currently receiving donations of books to stock the bookshop and would appreciate support from someone with expertise in this area to set the shop up before we open to the public in May. This is a temporary position but may continue into a role within the bookshop / tearoom once we’re up and running.
Bookshop and tearoom day to day running
In this role you will ensure the best selection of books are on display and looking their best. You’ll also be serving hot drinks and sweet and savoury snacks and cakes, clearing tables and maintaining standards in the tearoom.
Over and above the vacancies listed above we run a rolling recruitment programme for events, gardens and administration
