We are CLOSED

Hestercombe Gardens are recruiting for seasonal events staff to help deliver our busy Christmas events programme.

This is a hands-on, active role, where you'll be getting out and about around the gardens at Hestercombe.

Responsibilities will include:

Supporting the events and marketing teams with delivery of a range of fun Christmas events, from ILLUMINATE, our brand new Christmas illuminations, to our popular Father Christmas experience, Christmas craft workshops and more.

Site decoration: you could be putting up Christmas trees and decorations, decorating Santa's Workshop, or helping set up the Hall for our Wreath Making workshops or Festive Suppers.

Father Christmas support: once Father Christmas is on site, we work hard to make sure that he and his team of elfs are happy, so you could be helping replenish presents in the grotto, taking more chopped wood for the fire, creating booking sheets of attendees, bringing Santa some refreshments, or ensuring everyone has turned up on time to start welcoming visitors!

Illuminations: we have over 20 evening events just for ILLUMINATE this year, and need your support to help deliver the event, from turning the lights on themselves, to providing booking sheets to the Visitor Reception, and helping monitor the event, providing any signage (on chalk A boards) as required.

Lighting our fire: every day, we'll need to light our lovely little fire pit in the Courtyard and keep it going throughout the day, so if you're a bit of a Ray Mears, this is for you! You may also be required to ensure that music and lights have been turned on in the courtyard and Bampfylde Hall.

Plus, any ad hoc requirements as and when they arise ~ you may be asked to cover a busy hour or two in the Ticket Office, or clear some tables in the Courtyard if the Catering team is short staffed.

Who we're looking for

Previous events experience would be great, but not essential, as training will be provided. We are looking for people with lots of energy, attention to detail, a friendly disposition, and a 'can do' attitude! (you'll also need appropriate outdoor footwear of course)

The Marketing & Events team are small, hard working but friendly and fun. Christmas is a busy time of year for us, but we love putting on our events and creating a great visitor experience for young and older visitors alike - fuelled by our love of mince pies and other festive treats in the office!

Hestercombe is an equal opportunities employer and we welcome people from all backgrounds, ages, genders, abilities and ethnicities.

Pay & Hours

National Living Wage (23 and over), or National Minimum Wage (under 23). Check these rates on Gov.uk.

The hours of this role may vary, depending on how many events we are delivering at any one time. However, we would envisage anywhere between 20-40 hours a week on average, between 24 November to 7 January 2022.

This role will be required to work some evenings and all weekends throughout late November and December - but not Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year's Day.

Other benefits

You'll receive discounted food, retail discounts, unlimited access to the gardens throughout your contracted period, and free on site parking.
