During a summer-long artist residency at Hestercombe, artist Simon Bayliss has responded to the gardens through painting en plein air and writing poetry. ‘Regions of Light’ is an exhibition that showcases the historic work of painter and poet Rev. John Eagles (1783-1855), together with contemporary pieces by multi-media artist Rebecca Chesney, painter Paul Desborough and photographer Jem Southam. Trace, a new site-responsive work for Hestercombe by Philippa Lawrence, is the culmination of an extensive study of tree trunks, ancient and new, within its grounds. The simple, bold enamels are positioned on flagstones of a walkway that links two formal gardens Jekyll garden, the Dutch Garden through the Orangery. Meet the artist Philippa Lawrence will be available 11am – 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday to talk about her work.

This exhibition presents a new and recent body of work by internationally acclaimed artist Helen Sear, whose practice can be characterised by her exploration of the crossover between photography and fine art and her focus on the co-existence of the human, animal and natural worlds.
