Estate Worker / Landscape Gardener

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to join our small gardens/estate team. You will play a key role in supporting the ongoing restoration, development and maintenance of the 18th Century Landscape Gardens and wider Hestercombe estate. The job is varied and encompasses many skills, from garden maintenance, countryside management, small woodland management, as well as maintaining a waterwheel and mill equipment. We are looking for someone enthusiastic, energetic and versatile who can hit the ground running.

Responsible to:

Head Gardener and Landscape Gardens Supervisor

Terms of Employment:

39 hours/week. 8am-5pm Mon-Thurs, 8am-4.00pm Fri . Post holder must have a flexible approach to working hours. May need to work additional hours including evenings and weekends to meet the requirements of the Hestercombe Gardens Trust (HGT)

Salary:

£16,000 per annum

Purpose of the Job:

To work on restoration and maintenance of the historic gardens and surrounding estate; to ensure safe and efficient working practises at all times; to assist the operation, maintenance and public demonstration of the Hestercombe Watermill; to assist with the upkeep and maintenance of building facilities and garden machinery. To be part of the overall estate team assisting with events at Hestercombe and work flexibly within this.

Assistant Hospitality Manager

Seeking an Assistant Hospitality Manager to support the Hospitality Manager in the day-to-day running of the daytime restaurant plus weddings, functions, and events. The successful applicant will be required to deliver front-of-house (FOH) catering operations in a professional manner for the benefit and enjoyment of the general public.

Responsible to:

Hospitality Manager

Terms of employment:

Permanent, Full-time, 48 hours / week (2503 annualised hours including 23 days holiday). This is an annualised role so hours worked may vary from month to month but the salary will be paid monthly in 12 equal installments over the year. You will be required to work weekends, Bank holidays and limited evenings on rota. No split shifts.

Salary:

£17,000 – 18,000 per annum

Purpose of the job:

To support the Hospitality Manager in (and deputise for in their absence) the day-to-day running of the daytime restaurant plus weddings, functions, and events. Deliver front-of-house (FOH) catering operations in a professional manner for the benefit and enjoyment of the general public.

Chef de Partie

Seeking a Chef de Partie to support the Head Chef and wider kitchen team in the day-to-day running of the kitchens in a professional manner. The successful applicant will be required to produce excellent food, consistently and to a high standard in a busy but energetic working environment. The role will support our broad catering offer from our popular Stables Cafe, to our waiter served Column Room Restaurant and our growing weddings and functions business.

Head Chef (Sous Chef in the absence of the Head Chef)

Terms of employment:

Role summary:

  1. Be responsible for the preparation, provision and service of quality food to the standard set by the Hestercombe Gardens Trust.
  2. Be responsible for the maintenance and cleanliness of your section and the catering facility.
  3. Ensure that the highest levels of food and services are consistently achieved.
  4. Assist with the ordering of all stock and stock control within your section and ensure this stock is stored safely in accordance with hygiene regulations and in keeping with the Hestercombe Gardens Trust’s policy.
  5. Ensure the highest health and safety standards are maintained in areas under your control. Take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work. Carry out risk assessments as required.
  6. To comply with the requirements of the Food Safety Act 1990 and associated Regulations to ensure high standards of food hygiene are maintained at all times. Level 2 Food Safety qualification required.
  7. Undertake other reasonable duties, which are compatible within the overall scope of this appointment.

In addition, all employees are expected to work within the terms of their contract of employment and adhere to Hestercombe Gardens Trust instructions, values and behaviours.

Hospitality Staff

Role summary:

We are looking for waiting staff for the Stables Café and Column Room Restaurant and to work at our weddings and events.  You will deliver exceptional customer service, have a positive attitude and be willing to learn.  Tasks will include taking orders, serving food, clearing tables, laying up rooms ready for a wedding or function and serving drinks from the bar.

Salary:

National Living Wage (dependent on age)

Terms of Employment:

Flexible hours, this role will support business peaks.  You will often be required to work evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.

Bookshop Assistants – Voluntary

From working selling books to visitors to doing the ‘behind the scences’ sorting there’s lots to be done in the bookshop. We have donations arriving every week that need sorting, pricing and cleaning before they can be put out for sale. And once they’re on the shelves there’s serving visitors and chatting to them about the books they like. We ask for a commitment of one morning or afternoon every two weeks. Gallery Invigilators – Voluntary

As a volunteer in this role, you will meet and greet visitors to the new Hestercombe House Gallery, helping them to get the most out of their visit. You will have information about each of the artworks in your section and will be working as part of a team. You will be responsible for safeguarding the paintings and guiding visitors through the different rooms of the ‘pop-up’ gallery. Hestercombe’s busy event schedule is run by a close knit, hardworking team of staff and volunteers. We’re looking for more people to sign up to seasonal events.
