Bampfylde Lecture & Supper 2020: Bampfylde’s Somerset - 28th February 2020
Join Tom Mayberry, Chief Executive of the South West Heritage Trust, for the annual Bampfylde Lecture – a celebration of the birthday of Coplestone Warre Bampfylde, designer of the Landscape Garden at Hestercombe.
This year, the Bampfylde Lecture takes on a special significance as 2020 marks the 300th anniversary of his birth.
In this lecture, Tom Mayberry will set Bampfylde’s achievements as an artist, architect and garden designer in the context of 18th century Somerset.
Long years of conflict in the previous century were over and Bampfylde’s Somerset was being transformed by new money, new ideas and new creativity. It was a transformation in which Bampfylde played his own distinguished part. The lecture will seek to show how, three hundred years after his birth at Hestercombe, he deserves to be understood as a striking and remarkable representative of his times.
Make an evening of it and enjoy a two course supper in Hestercombe House before the lecture.
Please note, the vegetarian option must be pre-ordered by Wednesday 26th February. To pre-order this, please email Victoria Hill with your booking reference.
