This workshop takes place at our demonstration Market Garden at Hestercombe and focuses on simple, effective propagation methods for edible plants.

Whether you’re looking to save money, increase your yields, or experiment with new varieties, this session will show you how to multiply your plants with confidence. From basic techniques to more advanced methods, you’ll gain practical skills that can be applied at home or on an allotment.

Suitable for beginners through to experienced growers, this course is ideal for anyone wanting to expand what they grow through variety or volume.

Topics Covered

• Sowing and seed starting
• Seed saving techniques
• Leaf, stem, and root cuttings
• Grafting and budding (including fruit propagation)
• Layering and division
• Seasonal differences between summer and winter propagation

Practical Elements

Depending on the season, you’ll take part in a range of hands-on propagation activities, which may include seed saving, division, cuttings, grafting, budding, layering, and more.

• Location: Hestercombe Gardens (please note the venue is rural and public transport options are limited)

This workshop takes place outdoors on uneven ground, with some time spent under cover in the polytunnel or glasshouse. Please wear sturdy footwear and dress for all weather conditions.

The nearest train station is Taunton.

Anyone who grows food and wants to reduce the cost of growing—whether at home, on an allotment, or on a smallholding.

Booking & Cancellation

As a small non-profit organisation, we are unable to offer refunds. If you need to cancel up to one month before the course, you will be offered a credit towards another workshop. After this time, credits can only be offered if your place is successfully rebooked.
